The ship sailed just as the COVID pandemic was starting to spread and returned to Sydney with 1 in 4 passengers infected with COVID in March 2020.

The Federal Court has found that the operator, Carnival knew of the risk of COVID contagion and was liable to compensate the passengers. But the compensation Carnival was ordered to pay was minimal. Only the expenses for treatment and pharmaceuticals. Nothing for pain and suffering, and the refund of the cruise price was sufficient to compensate for the distress and disappointment in not having a safe, relaxing and enjoyable cruise.
